City Theater presents Sylvia

Enter Sylvia, brought to life by the very talented and adorable Carrow MacLean! With a flurry of tail wagging, dashing around and constant chatter, she LOVES her new home and her new owner Greg/Joe Quinn (She says to him “Nearer My God to Thee”) with a charming endearing portrayal of the crazy mutt. This super star has an impressive resume!

New to Maine, she will win your heart with her character! MacLean is spot on throughout this show. She presents frenetic puppy energy complete with leg shakes, flea scratching, “Hey! Hey!” barking, posing, cuddling, sulking, and stretching (downward dog!) better than some real canines!

Hysterical! MacLean shines in this role! ... MacLean is the perfect pooch!

On Stage: Exhilarating escapes to 16th-century Spain and 20th-century space

Some elements of Scott’s story will have particular significance for the grownups in the audience, like the archival footage of JFK’s pledge to put a man on the moon, photos of the race riots and Vietnam, and vintage rock ‘n’ roll. This larger contextualization may go over the heads of younger kids, but adds historical and emotional grounding for the rest of us.

And there’s plenty of visual wonder to occupy the young ones.
